A leading North-West charity, which supports ex-service professionals helping them get back on their feet, is the latest big name to be announced, this morning, as ‘Passing GO on the Preston MONOPOLY game.. which hits the shops next month (October).
Much vaunted charity Dig In – based in Preston and which has featured very prominently on national TV – will get to star on a Community Chest square all of its very own on the new official board.
And here is their card released for the first time:
So far three organisations have been announced as being on the board: Deepdale, PNECET and the Preston Street Pastors. The makers of the board Winning Moves UK have also said that The Harris Museum and Preston Guild Hall are almost certain to feature too. And Avenham Park and the Flag Market have been tipped for leading spots as well.
But today the dice rolls on Dig In, as it is revealed that they are the latest Preston organisation to be announced as ‘Passing GO’ ,, and are one of several charities that will feature in the game.
The Mayor of Preston Cllr David Borrow says:
“It’s great news that Dig In is to feature on Preston’s very own MONOPOLY board.
“It will help put us on the map and raise our profile still further – and I’m especially pleased as Dig In is one of my Mayoral charities.”
The makers of the game say the board, which will hit the shops on October 22nd, will showcase “the great and good of Preston” and describe it as: “A love letter to Preston”.
“Several Preston charities will get to feature and it’s our way of thanking the public for getting behind the game so very enthusiastically,”
says a spokesperson for Winning Moves UK, makers of the new game under license from MONOPOLY owners Hasbro.
“The public got behind a charity vote earlier in the year beyond magnificently. Thank you to everyone who voted.
“Dig In polled extremely well and is very much cherished in Preston and beyond, from what we have seen.”
Earlier this year, Winning Moves UK announced that Preston is to get its own MONOPOLY game after seeing off a host of other places across the north-west in a “beauty contest”.
Dig In Trustee Gillian Bennett says:
“We are thrilled to be honoured this way and thank you to everyone who voted for us.”
The charity, which has featured on Channel Five’s Homefront, took up roots in a quiet corner of Ashton Park, Preston, eight years ago.
Mrs Bennett adds:
“The garden is a form of horticultural therapy and helps ex-service people unlock their potential. Very many of these professionals are used to being a part of a team with structure and routine and when they leave the forces they often lose that focus and direction which can be very tough.
“It’s a safe and structured support mechanism.
“And as well as the therapeutic advantages, there are also practical benefits like woodworking projects in a purpose built shed which is extremely popular amongst the ex-service professionals.
Two others charities have previously been announced as featuring in the game. They are PNECET and Preston Street Pastors. The remaining charities will be revealed when the game is released.
The new game will be available at all major toy and book stores in the city from 22nd October including Waterstones, The Works, Ryman and very widely online, including on Amazon.
