Lancashire-based brothers, Andre & Ashley Preston, recently took on a charity bike ride in aid of Preston-based charity Heartbeat. After completing the 60 mile Manchester – Blackpool route, the pair added 20 miles cycling to Hearbeat’s Preston office. (Taking their total to 80 miles – all by BMX!)
“It’s a fantastic charity” Andre told Podio, “We both suffer high blood pressure so we’re aware of how important it is to look after our hearts. By raising this money we’re helping others look after theirs.”
Heartbeat is Lancashire’s heart disease charity, supporting 800+ people across the county, of which approximately 500 access support in the Preston area. This is achieved through exercise rehabilitation & lifestyle change – with personalised support from a Cardiologist, GP, a dedicated Patient Support Officer & BACPR qualified fitness instructors. Heartbeat also runs a community & schools awareness programme locally.
Mark Cassidy, Heartbeat’s Fundraising Officer, told Podio “They’ve done brilliantly. The route is hard enough on a road by hybrid bike so 80 miles on a BMX is very impressive. We’re so grateful for the money they’ve raised, it’ll help us continue to support those suffering from heart disease in the area.”
So far the pair have raised over £500.
