Preston community centre in Plungington was going to close its doors earlier this year as a result Iof Lancashire County Council reducing their funding.
The community centre has over 45 groups that use the centre on a weekly basis.
Charities like Lauren’s Forever Purple Charity relay on community centres like Plungington so they have a place to host their events and group meetings. Lauren’s Charity supports the people in the area particularly those with learning disabilities.
The Charity’s CEO, Joanne Griffith says that those that have learning disabilities are often deprived in society because, ”they have no where else to get out and do things that are therapeutic like listening to music and playing games.”
The Charity hosts an event called ‘Music For All’ every Thursday at Plungington Community Centre.
Volunteer at Music For All, Paul Wilksons, also has some learning disabilities. He said, “these events help me feel cheerful, they brighten my day.
“I have something to do instead sitting bored at home wondering what I’m going to do.”
Both Caritas Care and Lauren’s Forever Purple Charity are increasing their efforts to unite the community and through guarding our local community centres gather the people together for a good cause.
