Hello & welcome to our Preston Pride edition of Podio!

In case you weren’t aware, Preston Pride is a free community event that takes over the city’s Flag Market every September. Fully volunteer-led, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender event is run by community members and funded by local organisations that choose to support it.

Seven years ago, myself and Debs Bradshaw, asked whether Preston should join the other 100+ towns & cities across the UK in hosting a celebratory & engaging event for our local community. The response we received was overwhelming and so, from 2012 and as part of the Guild Year, the rainbow flag waved in Preston under the name of Pride for the first time.

Fast forward to now and it still encompasses everything it set out to do back then: utilise and promote local talent, engage with everyday people in town on the day of the event and be free for all. Despite being a big money-generator, it was also agreed that the daytime event should never have alcohol present.

This year sees the return of an Official Fundraising After Party for those 18+ in partnership with our Dirrty Harrys team at Roper. Whichever element you manage to support, I hope you have a fab time. And if you see me knocking about, by all means say hi.
