A new society has launched at the University of Central Lancashire; made up of students that are currently studying a BSc Degree in Sexual Health Studies.
The group aims to provide positive sexual health messages & raise awareness of pressing issues. They’re currently working towards a Safeguarding Conference taking place in May.
We at Podio HQ think it’s a much-needed area of focus – and love that students in our city are leading on an initiative such as this themselves.
The aim of the May 14th event, is ‘to bring together safeguarding professionals to explore, understand & reflect upon key issues that are faced within contemporary practice.
Speakers include, Marilyn Hawes (Founder and CEO of Enough Abuse UK), Professor Carsten Maple (a Professor of Cyber Systems Engineering who works in the digital world preventing Child Sexual Exploitation/CSE), Daniel Wolstencroft from Shatterboys UK and Darren Lynch (Child Sexual Exploitation Practice Manager at ENGAGE Blackburn).
Harri Lloyd-Williams, Chair of the Sexual Health & Wellbeing Society, told Podio Preston how much it means to him to be leading such important campaigns, “My proudest moment already’ he says, ‘is acquiring hundreds of sexual health packs for us to distribute freely, and consequently encourage safe sex’. He continued, ‘May’s Conference will also be a big achievement; it’ll hopefully become an annual event – which will have started from us, here, now.’
