Press Release 13th July 2020 Pastors ‘Pass GO’
Many Preston charities are getting to star on the brand new official MONOPOLY game for the city – and the very first of these is announced this morning (13th July 2020). Preston & South Ribble (North) Street Pastors is ‘Passing GO’ on the MONOPOLY: Preston Edition game, which will hit the shops in late October this year (2020) and set to feature city favourites like The Harris Museum and Deepdale.
The Pastors are the first of the charities, voted onto the board via a public poll, to be announced. They are also the very first organisation / landmark to be revealed as starring in the game. The other Preston charities – there will be EIGHT featuring in the game in all – will be announced at a later date. Each charity will get to feature either on their own square .. or one of the Community Chest or Chance cards that players are directed to if they land on a Community Chest or Chance space. Around 35 Preston landmarks, organisations and favourites in all will each star in the game on their very own MONOPOLY Preston prime real estate or a card.
The Street Pastors will get to feature on a Community Chest card, which will read:
‘You provide vital help and support for local people while volunteering for Preston Street Pastors. Accept M20 as a gesture of thanks for your efforts.’ (EDITOR’S NOTE: Please note ‘M’ is the universal MONOPOLY dollar currency).
The public was invited to suggest, recommend and nominate charities as were charities themselves. “The Preston charity MONOPOLY opportunities are our way of thanking the public for getting behind the game so enthusiastically,” says George Shrimpton, Custom Games Executive for Winning Moves UK, makers of the new game under license from MONOPOLY owners Hasbro. “Very many congratulations to Preston Street Pastors.”
Preston Street Pastors volunteers are drawn from churches all over Preston and beyond and care, listen and provide support for the city’s homeless and for young vulnerable adults in the city centre at night times. The Pastors have been supporting the homeless and vulnerable in the city for over ten years.
A delighted Paul Blackett from Preston & South Ribble (North) Street Pastors said today: “We are thrilled to be playing a part in such an iconic board game and would like to thank everybody who voted for us.”
Earlier this year Winning Moves UK announced that the city is to ‘Pass GO’ after seeing off a host of other places across the north-west in a ‘beauty contest’.
THE PASTORS polled “exceptionally well,” added Mr Shrimpton, as did The Harris Museum, Deepdale and Avenham Park. Mr Shrimpton added: “We would like to formally thank each and every person who sent in nominations. “The game will feature the great and the good of Preston “The board will be available at all major retailers, as well as very widely online including Amazon.”
